Pare che oggi parta l'update automatico dei device Android. Sono davvero curioso di capire come (e se) funzionerà l'update: il principale problema che ho sempre avvertito sviluppando su Symbian e/o Windows Mobile è sempre stata l'eccessiva frammentazione delle piattaforme.
Una delle strategie vincenti di Apple, a mio avviso, è stata proprio quella di avere una piattafroma stabile e sempre aggiornata (un device venduto nel 2007 è identico per il programmatore a quelli venduti oggi.
Da una mail ricevuta ieri sera mi sembra di capire che l'update sia addirittura Over-The-Air:

Finally, we want to let you know that carriers are starting to update existing devices and deploy new devices with Android 1.5, the latest version of the platform. Over the next few weeks, the percentage of devices running Android 1.5 will increase as devices get updated to the latest version of Android. Android users in the United States will begin to have their devices updated to 1.5 from the end of this week. We recommend that you first focus on future proofing your 1.1 apps by testing with the latest Android SDK so that your apps can work on both Android 1.1 and 1.5 devices. We will provide more information when the majority of users have migrated their devices to Android 1.5 to help you with your app upgrade plans.
